starbury2_070207rh.jpgWhen it comes to community service, Stephon Marbury just won’t quit! It’s not just the revolutionary $15 Starbury shoes, or the $4 million dollar pledges to NYC police, fire-fighters, teachers, and EMT workers, or the annual summer basketball tournaments that he runs. Through his “Starbury Give Back Day” at Coney Island in June he rolled into town with a couple of 18-wheelers with about 75,000 items of merchandise and gave it away for free while everybody gets some free BBQ.Â

I stumbled upon this interview with Stephon Marbury at the Knicks website about ANOTHER “give-back day” in Manhattan on August 21. At the time it didn’t seem like the plan was solidified. Marbury said on July 30: “Yeah, we’re doing it again on August 21 here in Manhattan. It will probably be at Manhattan Mall, if we can’t do it there we might do it in front of the Garden.” I haven’t heard anything else about this so I have some questions:

  1. Is this thing still happening? Has anybody heard any follow-up on this?
    .
  2. In the interview Marbury says that the date is August 21. That would be on Tuesday instead of the weekend like last time. Is that the correct date or did Marbury just slip up?
    .
  3. If it is still happening, it would be basically right down the street from the ESPN Zone where they tape The Sports Reporters. Is there any chance at all that they will cover the 2nd “Starbury Give Back Day” even though they gave the first one no website love? Will the “Pacman-as-Black Man network” find room to slip it in next to their daily MAIN-page offering of Pacman as wrestler (on Wednesday), Pacman as hip-hop musician (yesterday), or Pacman had an argument with the cashier at the 7-11 story?
    .
