v081506a.jpgHave you had your fill of the media’s “black athlete misbehavior flavor of the month”? Did you wonder whatever happened to Tim Donaghy? (answer: sending Michael Vick Hallmark cards!) Are you wondering about how “the white pass” in media operates? COSELLOUT has got you covered.

Â

White September: Every month COSELLOUT will focus in-depth on an individual or subject to help tell the story of our mainstream sports media. In August that person was Barry Bonds (see articles below). While a few more thought-out but-unwritten Bonds articles may still trickle in, COSELLOUT will focus on WHITENESS this September. We will explore the predominantly white media, white athletes, a certain white referee, owners, the white sports fan and how all have benefitted from “white privilege” in ways that might not be readily apparent. Now that round-the-clock-coverage of the misbehaving African-American athlete is sports news most  profitable asset, we will attempt to help level the playing field armed with nothing more than a keyboard, a computer, and the truth. Why? To quote D. K. Wilson over at The Starting Five… “because we actually have the guts – or delusion? – to believe that we can make a dent in the machine.”

Coming in October: To warm up for the upcoming NBA season we will focus on New York Knicks President and Head Coach Isiah Thomas, disprove “The Biggest Myth in Sports”, and tell mainstream media’s story through a study of the 2006 New York Knicks.
