Modi

The wife and I saw the Movie last night.
EXCELLENT! MOVING! STIMULATING TO THE INTELLECTUAL PALLET!

My Son and his Senior class saw it yesterday too in the afternoon, and he and his classmates were invigorated and proud. Ripe minds received good water and nuturing yesterday. Our Leaves of Grass!

This THREAD is a GOOD THING MODI! Many may have allready made up their minds to go, but another push with kindness never hurt anyone.

THANK YOU RESIDENT SCHOLAR!

God Bless You!

MODI:

With the twins, I won't be going to see this for a bit, but I did see some exhilarating excerpts on Oprah's show. Great stuff.

Steady, good points. And "A Soldier's Story" doesn't seem to get its proper due.

Miranda, I was also looking for info on Tolson! I suppose that we are not the only two. He seems to be recognized in history for his poetry more than anything else. I was trying to find a full version of "Dark Symphony" somewhere.

Yep, like I said, a limited role, but Kimberly Elise made the most of that small amount of on-screen time. Oh they could have added another hour to the movie and I would have been happy.

Its frustrating though looking up information on the actual members of the debate team and Melvin Tolston...there really isn't a lot out there.

And what about the ongoing battle over which Cinema Houses will show the movie? Some titles just don't make it to mainstreams theathers due to politics. The Magic Theaters are very helpful in that sense. A special campaing would have to begin right here and now for Denzel to get the necessary ink/air to catapult him to that level. The movie may have suffered due to timing. Still, I believe that it is an immediate classic worthy (like Roots and for "other reasons" A Soldier's Story) of being purchased for the home video library.

yes it was and Derek Luke was excellent. Fair enough about Kimberly Elise's eyes, but I thought the only acting flaw was that she was underutilized. I think that I would have liked to see an exchange or two from her perspective.

Exactly Modi...I was thinking of Denzel's work on Antoine Fisher when I realized just how great of a director he really is. Wasn't that Derek Luke's first feature film?? And this was really Denzel Whitaker's first role (I simply love the irony in his name). I loved Kimberly Elise's role, as limited as it was. She has the ability to just act with her eyes alone..no words necessary.
