…about Zach driving me crazy when he puts his head down and takes on 3 defenders…
…about the Knicks play being so bad that I can’t muster up the energy to write another column about the scandalous NY Daily News almost daily promotions and full articles to individual Knick hating fans who sell all type’s of "Fire isiah" hats, t-shirts, and other gear…

But I can’t do all that right now… true Knick fans will understand…

MODI,
As a Raven fan, I have much respect for your faith in Isiah, but just as it was time for Brian Billick to go, I do believe it’s time for Isiah to take a walk also. Like Billick, part of Isiah’s downfall has been his allegiance to players who have now turned on him (Quinton Richardson comes to mind). It’s not gonna get better, it’s time for him to go.
Yeah, Knick fans (like me) understand. Especially when you write “I never thought I would see the day LB’s mad scientist Knick season would be rivaled”. Damn.
That sums it up, as sad as it is.
Let the side show begin, hurry, hurry, step right on in … can’t afford to pass it by, guaranteed to make you cry.
Modi brother I know your pain. I am a Hawks fan. I have felt this agony, screaming at the TV to figure out a way for someone to see what I see.
And when I look at the Knicks do you know what I see? The Hawks before the parade of young guys came in. That cleansing element cleaned out all the old veterans who didn’t want to do anything. And if you’re smart, and you draft a guy like a Sheldon Williams-type, it will turn around. trust me.
and song lyrics that work for this situation:
They burn on and on like an oil field
Or a memory of what it felt like
To burn on and on and not just fade away
All those nights in the basement, the kids are still screaming
On and on and on and on
War all of the time
In the shadow of the New York skyline
We grew up too fast, falling apart
Like the ashes of American flags
And we’re blowing in the wind
We don’t know where to land
So we kiss like little kids
We used to be very tall buildings
We’ve been falling for so long
Now your eyes are a sign on the edge of town
They offer a welcome when you are leaving
des, there is no disagreement here at all. Isiah needs to go. Period. But to be clear I have defended Isiah the GM, not the coach. And while I have definitely downgraded my original assessment of Isiah the GM, I am convinced when looking at NBA history, that he walked into a suicide mission on the day he took that roster over in December 2003. I don’t believe that ANY GM in basketball walks out alive.
Okori, I never knew that Hawks fans ever had any passion
…but I can’t agree with your Shelden Williams citing, I mean, wasn’t Brandon Roy the very next pick?
side note: Lyrics aside, the lead singer for “Thursday” has one of those voices that you either like or you don’t. I don’t. As far as I can tell, there is no possible neutral position on this matter.
I’ll say this here among true Knicks fans, and nowhere else…it’s time for Zeke to go.
I still have a hard time typing those words because I wanted nothing more than for Zeke to win big in order to shake off all these racist haters.
But for whatever reason it’s not happening – indeed I’m not convinced that any of us “outsiders” can know or fully understand why it’s not happening. Modi, you have given numerous reasons above, to which I would add the meddlesome incompetence of owner Jim Dolan as well as Marbury’s melodrama. But in addition to all this I would also speculate that something even more sinister is afoot… I guess we’ll have to wait for the tell-all expose…
Meanwhile, it’s time to change course because, on the one hand, I’m not like most Knick “fans” and journalists in that I CAN appreciate a man who still has championship asiprations amidst this mad and hungry dog of a season, but on the other hand, when I watched the Blazers-Bulls game on TNT last night and I see the incredible effort put forth by the Blazers – a team with less than half the talent our Knicks roster has – then I know its time for a change.
Imagine if these Knicks played like those Blazers! Nuff said.
here’s why I’m citing Sheldon Williams (and this Hawk fan refused to be betrayed by the organization’s horrific crime of trading ‘Nique), although Brandon Roy works equally well: He’s good enough that he gets PT and enough of a glue guy that he can sort of serve as a good influence for the younger guys. When you’re trying to build a championship team guys like that are the guys you need.
And here’s my one beef with the defenders of Isiah: I;m not even a fan of his team, but sometimes he makes me feel stupid. Look…. “Welcome to the Playoffs” works if you’re in Atlanta, or Charlotte, or Cleveland pre-Lebron. But if you’re a Knicks fan, who can remember vividly the great Knicks teams who had rivalries with the Heat and the Bulls, that was an insult.
LP, I’m with you. Yes, Dolan has meddled (including Francis trade rumor has it), but I also give Dolan a measure of credit for giving a blank check. The thing about Marbury is that while Stephon was dead wrong, Isiah overreacted in trying to bench him after the 5th game. Isiah HAD to know that the press would turn that benching into a circus even if Marbury didn’t go AWOL. It was simply too early to make that decision. However, I’m wondering what “sinister” ideas are in your head…
Okori, granted, i haven’t been following the Hawks closely this year but isn’t Shelden Williams averaging 3.3 points and 3.2 rebounds? Do we use the 5th pick in the draft for a “glue guy” or the 25th pick. Now Horford is another story…
he is. and Horford is actually a better example for this than Sheldon, and I’m annoyed I didn’t remember it. He’s so good, right away, that he earns PT and he’s also (by all accounts) extremely coachable. That guy could be a building block for a decade.
I still have hope MODI they can turn it around. there haven’t been any indicators that they can do so this season, but after that brawl last year we really came together. Maybe moving one player, a key player can have the same effect as the brawl, really shake up the team’s mental faculties.
as a knicks fan I can’t just wait for the draft. that’s too far away.
i don’t understand what Isiah is doing, hopefully Isiah understands what Isiah is doing.
here’s another quote. Harry Doyle from Major League II gets the credit here.
obviously Isiah’s thinking… I don’t know WHAT the hell he’s thinking.
KD, only one last hopeful thread … a renewed and motivated Marbury ready to run an offense, but only if Isiah breaks up the Eddy-Zach pairing, sits Q, and plays Renaldo. That’s the hail mary…
honestly, I think that the media pressure has finally broken Isiah. He is done. At this point he seems like he WANTS to be fired and put out of his misery.
“…about the fact that I’m making intellectual distinctions between slime and sewage…”
Dig!
Don’t you remember my theory about sabotaging the sports teams in New York as a means of fighting the Cable Control Wars in New York City?
MODI,
While I was never as big a fan of Isiah the GM as you, I am glad to see that you have come to realize that Isiah needs to go. Isiah as a GM like players with flash to their game, but little substance. That is not a solid means to build a winning team. IMHO, we need a GM who will blow this team up for as amany draft picks as possible. This team has absolutely quit on the season. Luckily, there appears to be 3-4 major prospects in this year’s draft. Fire Isiah, replace him with someone who will emphasize the draft and in four years, the Knicks can be a true contender again.
The good news is that the team has some attractive pieces that can bring back draft picks in trades.
