"It's time to end the NBA dunk contest."…" It ain't what it used to be."…"We've seen it all before." …Sound familiar.
Welcome to the 2008 dunk contest — the best that I can remember since MJ and Dominique were going mano-a-mano. This one was all about creativity. Dwight Howard, aka Superman, stole the show with his cape and an off-the-back-of-the-backboard-Iguodala-dunk that went for 50. But for me the best two dunks didn't come from Dwight but Gerald Green and Jamario Moon. Green put a cupcake with a candle on the back of the rim and made sure to blow it out as he threw down. The sheer creativity of it was worth a perfect score — which he didn't get. But all the creativity from Howard and Green overshadowed what was probably the best dunk of the night: a Jamario Moon throw-down where he took off from just a step within the foul line caught the ball in mid air and dunked it with his left hand. The judges must not have seen the distance from where he left the ground or else he woud have received a perfect score.
Anyway, for at least one year the dunk contest was back and as fun as ever.

Jamario moon’s dunk was impressive, no doubt, but I think he lost points by putting down the tape a foot behind the ft line. That raised expectations to a whole nother level.
All in all, you can’t argue with Dwight Howard winning due to his overall creativity.
Amazing that Green “Cupcake” dunk didn’t bring the house down and get all 50s. Even more amazing is that we are actually breaking down the slam-dunk contest.
In the future, the NBA should always hold the all-star game in areas (even if no NBA team) that need a jolt (i.e. New Orleans). Bring the game to the people and complement each with community service component (i.e. tickets allocated to those who mentor, volunteer, etc).
This is some good material. It took me a while to find this site but it was worth the time. I noticed this page was buried in bing and not the number one spot. This website has a lot of first-rate material and it doesnt deserve to be burried in the search engines like that. By the way I am going to save this web publication to my list of favorites.
