A few days ago I was dismayed at how the Jeremiah Wright tapes might affect Barack Obama’s candidacy. Today I am glad that it did. The tapes forced Obama away from running purely as "race neutral" candidate, and into making a pivotal campaign decision. 1) Adhere to the Politics 101 handbook and exile his pastor to Siberia after his condemnations; or B) Have the nerve to think that he can TEACH and LEAD America across the political third rail known as "race". Barack Obama has put his chips "all in" and chosen the latter. And he has banked his entire candidacy on the hope that American voters might actually be receptive to grow, learn, and (gasp) understand nuance. He’ll repeatedly condemn his Pastor’s words, but won’t disown him anymore than he will disown his own white grandmother who has been known to make him cringe. And he actually wants all Americans to understand that point. And he wants us to understand many other points about race in America that go politically untouched. Now THAT is audacity.
It is the same type of leadership that made him denounce a war at a moment in time when it was thought to be pure political suicide. Professor Obama may be playing with some serious fire in trying to turn America into his own classroom, — except for one thing: unlike any other candidate, he not only has the eloquence, but more importantly the intelligence to teach us all and still become president of the United States of America. Perhaps that statement is completely naive. Time will tell. His courage displayed today makes this Barack Obama’s finest campaign hour… or 38 minutes. Whether the American people can realize the pure essence of leadership while it sits right before its very eyes remains to be seen. But I guess that is what the audacity of hope is all about. Before clicking play, be sure to bring the kids.
UPDATE: I was watching commentator Jim Wallis on CNN this evening, and this man simply nailed it:
"This was an amazing day as we all watched it unfold we may look back on this as an historic day because before Barack Obama’s speech this was a test of HIM. After the speech it has now become a test of US. And I want to say very clearly, I think that every American should watch this speech and watch it with their children and ask if Barack Obama’s vision of a more perfect union is the one they want for their children. …This is an examination of us as a nation."

Temple 3 – The only thing you have demonstrated on this thread is a lack of reading comprehension and lack of intellect.

Go back to those places if you don’t want to see my posts, I don’t make you read them.
Yeah, I don’t comment much anymore. But it’s always a pleasure to read your words – even when they’re mixed in with the words of a buffoon like Dave the Mac/Dave the man/Dave the Jolly Nigger Bank.
At least you tried to school the poor lost child. These days, all I can do is call him names and hope he goes away.
You know what? I was gonna get mad, but Jolly Nigger Dave is right.
If I want to read about “negroids” I can always go to stormfront.org.
Damn, what a moron. And, look, he’s got the nerve to say that somebody else is lacking intellect… “Look everybody! It’s sits there on its laptop looking at us with vacant eyes… now watch its mouth move… and words coming out! How does he do that?”
I can’t rightly say, all I know is he’s still just a dummy. Made of wood, plastic, and thread. You breathe words into his mouth and he appears to come to life. Yet he remains lifeless, hollow, and without a soul or a mind of his own.
He is to be pitied, not laughed at.
Look away now, you don’t ever want to stare too hard at a trainwreck, especially a mental one.
Now there you go, LP. It’s all good bruh.
By the way – one of the reasons for going through these exercises in futility is because these threads will be here long after we’re gone. They’ll be read by college students and high school kids. They’ll be read by working class sports fans at jobs where they’re sick and tired of “race jokes.” They’ll be read by people who have no idea what any of this stuff is – and yet, they’ll be familiar with the basic tenets of David’s argument. They’ll read through these threads – here, at TSF, at dwil’s – and they’ll see that for his bluster, the man was unwilling to post a single picture OR find out what Walter White’s claim to fame was infiltrating the Ku Klux Klan. That this same person ignored the fact that Powell’s contemporaries (no less prestigious than Roi Ottley) described him as having “blue eyes, an aquiline nose and light, almost blond hair.”
MODI’s blog is not going anywhere and folks like DMac, for all their lunacy and mental instability, should be shut down periodically – not with insults and barbs, but with painstaking questioning that reveals the limitations of their cognitive capacity.
When our children hear these arguments – like Buchanan’s argument on Negro Gratitude which D.Mac was kind or coon enough to share – they’ll recognize – and they should have additional tools to enjoin the battle.
That is all – and it’s still all good. It ain’t like I don’t know the boy is crazy.
Temple3 -
It is truly funny that you really think you were relevent in this thread and that on top of that you really believe you made a point.
LOL
I feel for you, I would hate to live in your world.
As for TheLastPoet, I must really have caught your attention for you to seek me out. I’m impressed that I have such a pull in your life.

Do dat make sins dum dum?
Last Poet and Temple3,
Post #104 is most compelling and on point. Little does DavidMac realizes, the ignorance and ill-constructed logic he presents here create teachable moments for us all but for himself. I suppose he can take solace (if he can ooze off his perch) in either being the village idiot, the whipping boy or the provocateur for some very insightful and anlytical words that will outlive all of us.
Not to worry DavidMac and don’t let those words create a spine for you. There are and will always be others just like you. Just when we thaught we could burry uncle Tom and aunt Jemima, here comes another repudiated, rejected and renounced Black/African American/Negroid Republican. Now that you’re starting to feel for others in #105, how does it feel?
