Michael Vick Sentenced I: Is KFC Next?

Now that Michael Vick has been sentenced, will corporate executives at Kentucky Fried Chicken be next? Okay, they’re not quite as cute as dogs, but isn’t torture still torture? Do uglier animals feel any less pain? And isn’t widespread mass torture of millions worse than small scale torture? C’mon everybody, let’s get outraged.

My question six months ago - and my question today - is, if dog fighting is a national phenomenon (and it is); and, if Michael Vick is deemed to have made purchases in other states (and he was), can we expect additional indictments and arrests across the nation?

The Witch Hunt Test seeks to address only two factors: internal validity and external validity.

Internal validity goes to the question of fairness of procedure and practice as specifically applied to a case. External validity goes to the question of fairness in the application of a rule to a particular person, class or group.

This case, for all its pomp and circumstance, fails just about every basic test of external validity. It is, by most objective measures, a witch hunt of epic proportions.

Americans haven’t learned much since Salem - and I don’t suspect that they will. Matches, anyone?

Hey! The witch trials were perfectly reasonable…they only set fire to you to prove if you are a witch…if you burn up, you’re not a witch..if you survive you are a witch and then………………………………………………..wait a minute…
